Abstract

The development of tourism in Likupang as one of Indonesia’s Super Priority Destinations has driven the need for accommodation facilities that are not only functional but also offer strong design value and distinctive spatial experiences. This study aims to explore the application of the egg tray form analogy as a conceptual basis for shaping private spaces in the design of a boutique hotel in Likupang. The analogy approach is used to extract the key characteristics of an egg tray—its repetitive form that protects and separates each element within it—as inspiration for creating spatial configurations that ensure user privacy and comfort.

The research method involves form analysis, object-to-architectural-space analogy studies, and the application of transformation results in the architectural design of the boutique hotel. The findings show that the egg tray analogy can be translated into individual spatial modules with clear boundaries while remaining visually and spatially connected, creating a balance between seclusion and interconnectedness. With this approach, user privacy is achieved not only through physical partitions but also through the manipulation of form, lighting, and spatial orientation. This study is expected to contribute to the development of analogy-based design methods in architecture, particularly for tourism accommodation projects that emphasize spatial experience and personal comfort.
