Design of a Vocational High School of Performing Arts (Music and Dance) Through the Hibualamo Nusantara Architecture Approach in Tobelo City

Abstract

The design of a Vocational High School (SMK) of Music and Dance is an effort to provide educational facilities that support the preservation and development of traditional Indonesian arts. In this context, the Nusantara Architecture approach was selected as the design foundation to reflect a strong local cultural identity and to create spaces that are adaptive to the tropical climate and local wisdom. This study aims to design a learning environment that is not only functional, but also serves as an educational and inspiring medium for students to learn, explore, and preserve Nusantara music and dance arts.

The design methods applied include literature studies, comparative studies, field observations, and site analyses. The Nusantara Architecture approach is implemented through key elements such as the use of local materials, natural ventilation systems, traditional roof forms, and spatial arrangements that flexibly and contextually accommodate performing arts activities.

The result of this project is a design for a Vocational High School of Music and Dance that integrates cultural values, educational functions, and spatial comfort, serving as a representative hub for the younger generation in preserving the nation's cultural heritage.
